#27357 Harrods 2011 Christmas Bear

Posted by zooey on 05 October 2011 - 09:20 AM in General Lauder Solids Talk

Hi everyone, I know it's been a while. Life has been busy. I tried to order the Harrods Bear on line and found they won't ship to the USA (at least on-line). If anyone knows how I can purchase, please help.

Thanks so much,

Hi Katita -

You can call Harrods directly and order. Their number (from the States) is 011-44-207-730-1234. At least it was...many moons ago.

Harrods also has a "Catalog" department. (I love their catalog!) The number for that is 011-44-870-732-1234.

Let us know if you get one!

(Sorry about the error on the first phone number. It's fixed now.)

#27356 Harrods 2011 Christmas Bear

Posted by zooey on 05 October 2011 - 09:11 AM in General Lauder Solids Talk

Sandra - WHERE did I say Lisa did not care about Solids? (It's a full moon...remember that.) Of COURSE she cares...why else this site?

I just think we're all very confused about what's real and what's not. But what collector in their right mind would purchase a "resin bear" thinking it was a solid? Was it stated in the text? I've been away from both the bay and this site for so long that by the time I go to check on things you've posted, they're gone. I can only address things in general.

Oh...Saks did call me...left a message. If we want brochures on the new line we can call them and they will send one out. How's that for info???

Anyone call Neiman's? Just a thought.

Now...am very busy. Must think up 199 User ID's and email addresses.

Bye for now!

You're absolutely right, Lisa. EL does not care about what is happening or it's customers. Unfortunately, we are the customers/collectors...and we DO care. However, since you don't want us to discuss this topic anymore, that's fine. We'll just let it go. However, we'll find some other way to keep one another informed.

Take care...

#27348 Harrods 2011 Christmas Bear

Posted by zooey on 04 October 2011 - 12:34 AM in General Lauder Solids Talk

The first seller who is an active member of this site had already sold a 2011 Bear for $850 despite several people reporting the listing to ebay while the listing was still active. The second Bear that came on ebay by a different seller was quickly removed before the listing ended. I am unsure about the rules on this site so did not know if it was possible/acceptable to upload the listings in question to embed in my Post but I did ask the Moderator (see my previous posts) if I could name and shame the rogue sellers but got no response. On this thorny subject I have done my utmost to present the facts and only the facts on the matter of the illegal 2011 Bears.

What is the point of Estee Lauder being a member of the VERO program if they don't take action against the sellers who break the rules????? FACT

Hi MitziMay -

Have highlighted a few very relevant words from your post. You see, the first and second seller of the bears are quite possibly, and most likely, the same seller. You see, each seller on the Bay can have more than one User ID, and PayPal allows (are you ready) up to 200 different email addresses with the SAME PASSWORD for the SAME ACCOUNT. I'm sure the there is a perfectly rational explanation for this. Stores could have 200 employees working for them, and they would have to share the same password to access the Stores account on PayPal AND the Bay. However, I have spoken with more than one employee of the Bay and they have assured me that anyone with an account on their site can have many User ID's and access to one account on PP for 200 Users with the same password...as long as it trails back to one of their numerous registered User ID's on the Bay. I found that very interesting.

In situations like these (more than one of the same item but different sellers) I always check their location and invariably it turns out to be New York. What a coincidence...but it's fun to investigate and yes, speculate. (Rhode Island has sort of fallen off the radar screen...guess they ran out of contraband. Canada isn't too busy, either.)

I edited your post in the interest of keeping this as short as possible.

'nite all...have a happy Tuesday. :)

(Was going to edit this post but forgot why. duh.)

All I can say is that it was a pity we did not have more input from you all on the site at the time when these other item bears were being listed! Thanks to various collectors and concerned U.K. collectors, the sale of those 'illegal' bears have been noted. It's all very well getting excited about new releases but on the other side of the coin, you wouldn't have new releases if everyone sat back and did nothing!

What I've never understood is why collectors would purchase ANY solids that were supposedly "pre-released." Wouldn't your head tell you that Estee Lauder does not auction off solids or anything else on the Bay? Therefore, it's someone who has access to figures that are possibly knock-off's or...unfinished solid figurals that have been surreptitiously obtained.

Plus, Estee Lauder is a full-fledged member of the VERO program...they are supposed to monitor and catch these things themselves. They have an entire department or 2 (one is located in the UK) dedicated to just what Jacky is doing. Why are they not doing anything?

Just because many of us are in the US, we can still access Harrod's website. At least...I can.

That said, we do have to thank Petals for all her covert work on our behalf. It truly is appreciated. It's just sad that consumers must do all the work.

'nough said, as usual. All this is just, of course, IMHO! :)

Hey Woody! How are things in the Windy City? Anyway, the REAL 2011 Bear is now officially listed on Harrod's website, as I'm sure everyone knows by now, and it's just like Woody's picture.

As far as the "samples" being a little different, perhaps they were just knock-off's. I'm just saying! It's not "bible."

Hi Sandra - Haven't forgotten you! :)

Sandra, Sandra, Sandra...Be more specific. Are you referring to Prince Harry or the EL Solid English Rider?

Brigitte - The only "Round Powder Compact" of recent release I can find is the one in 2007 - The "Estee Lauder Signature Compact." Retailed for $115 here in the US. Has lines to the center (photo shows alternating braided lines and smooth lines) ending at a dark blue center cabachon (sp?) with another smaller cabachon for the latch.

Supposedly "On-Counter" 8/3/2007.

Hey there Sandra - Now she's hanging out in "stalls" and sleeping in parks, for heaven's sake. Try that in Central Park in NY but be sure to take photo ID with you so you can be identified when the medics get there!

Me thinks petals needs someone to look after her, for sure. I'm all for taking risks, but napping on a park bench??? B)

#27122 Looking To Buy

Posted by zooey on 10 April 2011 - 03:37 PM in Solids Wanted

Dearest Jacky, I am crushed! You announce that you have not one but two of the compacts I'm looking for and then just blithely say "not for sale"?! I hope I have better luck with someone on this side of the pond!! Someone please help me out?!
p.s. I do have the powder, hee hee

Petals will do that. First she gets you all excited, then she rips the rug right out from under you!

Bad petals...bad, bad petals!

#27121 Rope With Turquoise Stone Solid Perfume

Posted by zooey on 10 April 2011 - 03:34 PM in General Lauder Solids Talk

Hi Petals!

For the finish to last, it/they should be dipped into a mix of copper, nickel and rhodium (very expensive) or...22K gold. Go BACK to the "stall" (is this a barn sale? :D ) and see if you can sort of chip a little off with your nail...but do it as if you are just sort of rubbing it. We don't want to visit you in Old Bailey. At least, not without some Bailey's. If a little of the finish flicks off, it could just be a brass coating, which is not so bad. It should last, as long as no one nicks it! Then again, it could just be a gold colored paint. If so, it WILL chip off.

I would take a picture and forward it to Aerin Lauder just to see what she thinks. And yes, she will contact you. They actually sound lovely...possibly very old Estee Lauder trinkets.

Get thee back to the barn, girl!

Good Luck! :)

Glad you had a lovely evening with friends even ! :D

Yeah, Jacky, come on now, out of the closet with that Elephant !

At this point I could have a lovely evening with Jack the Ripper.

I believe Jacky's under the bed searching for boxes with a flashlight. What a visual!

#27102 Purchasing Solids

Posted by zooey on 01 April 2011 - 11:08 AM in General Lauder Solids Talk

Oh No! More Bar Codes??? My eyeballs are about to spontaneously combust!

Petals, I still want that Kitten, darn it! Just pop her in your carry-on and zip it closed...not an issue! Kittens are quite tiny and sleep a lot. She'll be out for at least 6 or 7 hours...plenty of time to get her here. B)

Must pop over to the liquor store...Old Mother Hubbard's pantry is getting a tiny bit sparse. Can't have that, can we now!

#27094 Purchasing Solids

Posted by zooey on 31 March 2011 - 12:27 AM in General Lauder Solids Talk

After a nice evening out with some friends for dinner (the first in close to a year) and after reading the above posts, I now find it necessary to drag out the Bailey's for some major "downtime."

Talk about a sticky wicket!

Edit: Jacky...let the darn Elephant out of the box. It's time.

OK - here I am, joining you in that toast, Michele !

Ah . . . running low on the Baileys now . . . lucky I have a family member flying o/s soon and I'll get some more Duty Free . . B)

My glass is raised and ready! Let me know when it's time... :D We'll have a toast to "More New Solids" and the Collectors who care. Hey, that's two (2) drinks. I'll drink to that. (That's 3.) ;)

What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet

Juliet....(Romeo and Juliet) Shakespeare...

So true, petals. Then again, if Estee Lauder were still with us, she would definitely explain to us "what's in a name!" HER name was HER trademark. To the best of my knowledge, it still is. Just a general thought...nothing to do with anything in particular.

#27082 Brochures And Papers

Posted by zooey on 28 March 2011 - 12:22 PM in General Discussions

here is a link to my site with the brochures etc.

Wass not yet able to scan all of them, but most.

If you have any that you ccan't find on my site, please send me a pic of them and I will add them too.

Thanks and have a great day, Brigitte

Hi Brigitte - Beautiful display! As you know, I have most if not all of them, plus a few more. Cannot remember which one's I sent you years ago. Time permitting, I will scan what I do not see and forward or mail them to you.

Would truly like to know how many Collectors received the Artist's Rendition of the Showgirl! Except for the plume at the back, it was made spot on! Ok...the shoes are a little different...and there's more gold in the real Showgirl's headpiece...but all in all, EL managed to pull it all together as the artist painted.

Question: Who was the artist? Maybe if I whip out my magnifying glass...again. :(

You have a great day also, Brigitte, and thanks so much for the Link! :)

#27080 Brochures And Papers

Posted by zooey on 28 March 2011 - 11:50 AM in General Discussions

Was going through all my old brochures sent to me by just about every upscale Department Store in the US and the UK. Found a beautiful Artist's Rendition of the Showgirl before she was manufactured. The SA from the Las Vegas store sent it to me long ago. Am going to frame it...just so very pretty!

Anyone else have any great brochures or papers they've kept? It's fun just to sit and go through each one...in their time, we were all so thrilled to see the new solids. I'm still hoping for more...

#27079 Purchasing Solids

Sandra - Where have you been? No...don't tell us.

Took the Butterfly auction down so this entire thread was probably a waste. I've studied the poor Butterfly so much we both got tired...plus, there was one clear crystal I just wasn't totally thrilled with. Nothing noticeable to the naked eye, but still...a little separation between 2 stones grew, in my mind, to a super-highway! :o

Plus, there's another one up that just is not the same color enamels as mine...almost looks, well, different. Not up to Estee Lauder standards as I know them to be. Who knows???????????

Bottom Line: The Butterfly stays with me. She's happy...as am I. :)

#27071 The Estee Rope Solids

Posted by zooey on 27 March 2011 - 11:35 AM in General Lauder Solids Talk

I am wondering if there is no label, how do you tell the difference in all the Estee Rope solids? I have a few that are the same design rope with the turquoise stone center, but the sizes are slightly different. Is there any way to tell which one is from what year??? There were so many releases/re-releases.

Any hints? Thanks ya'll!! B)

If you look on Page 13 of Roselyn's Collection Book, there is quite a list of all "closed auctions" listing many different "rope" pendant solids. Possibly you could go through the list and check out the photo's as they all have names associated with them. For instance, there is a Ginger Jewel Pendant (tortoise) that was issued in 1979 and another Ginger Jewel (red) that was issued in 1978.

Ms. Gerson had two other books published that are equally informative (beautiful photos!) and have a few solid rope pendants in them. For instance, on pages 74 and 75 of her "Vintage & Contemporary Purse Accessories" there are photo's of 4 of them...all pendants...all on ropes (except for the shell pendant.)

There's also her "Vintage & Vogue Ladies Compacts." Get thee to Barnes & Noble! :D

That's all the help I can give as I personally have never purchased a Pendant Solid.

Good Luck! Hey, half the fun is in the search. ;)

1993, Beasutful has the control code 4395 and the barcode 27131 04681 3as 1993 as 1994, White Linen have the control code 7195 and the barcode 27131 04374 4, those two also have the same boxes but different labels on the back side of the bottom. Check all the pics please.

Yup! That's exactly what I explained to you in a previous post. And that's exactly what is on my Butterfly Box. As far as not being able to see the small print, don't feel alone. I WAS wearing glasses and still needed a magnifying glass to give you the numbers! :)

Have a nice day. :D
