I have what I'm fairly sure is the Panda from the early '80s Imperial series. Haven't seen any pictures of it in IPBA newsletters, online or any still-listed auctions on ebay. I'm trying to determine its value and if it's terribly rare or not (though it would seem to be). Any information would be appreciated.

one panda was sold as a buy it now for $175
another went for a high price. All depends
what someone will pay for something they
really want.
Wanna sell? I'll buy...

Thanks for the information and the offer. Just after posting my inquiry, I heard several things about the Imperial or Faux Ivory Panda. It definitely seems to be rare - one person had heard it was a prototype and only a few existed. Another said it's rare because the paws are fragile. Another said the last one on ebay went for $4,000. Suffice to say, we're trying to learn more [Smile] ; hopefully right from the source.

I asked Roselyn Gerson about the panda and
solids in general..it would seem that nobody
really knows how many of the earlier perfumes
were made. I am sure Estee Co. had no idea that
their solids would be such a hit 35+yrs down the
road. Your panda is the 3rd one I have heard
about. Yes the paws are very fragile, and it is
possible that people threw them out when they were
damaged. They only cost about $35 new (imagine that).

Hi !
The first panda i saw was on homepage from swisslady. The next one was sold at ebay for 4200 $. The third was buy it now for 150 $ mint in box!!! Lucky owner now .
The panda was not a prototype.
The ivory frog is a prototype but I have no photo
the one who have one had forgotton to send it to me.
I think the best way is to leave the panda in your collection because its the seldomst piece
of Estee Lauder solids.

Greetings !

Michaela

Will do Lorraine. In fact, Lisa suggested simply posting a notice at the site in the chat area, which is what I'll do. I think we'll put it up this Sat pm or next - depends of how much energy I have this weekend after such a hot, humid and yard work-intensive week! [Cool]

Quite a few people have sent information about this Imperial Panda and have asked to be told when we're going to list it on ebay. I hope everyone sees this. We'll be putting it up this Sunday night (6/16), and the reserve won't be $4,000. [Smile]
