To everyone on this side of the pond, just a brief word to be careful when purchasing from overseas.

I have been landed with a hefty bill this morning due to the item not having been described in full.

It is hardly worth purchasing on Ebay for items when after paying the cost to ship here you are then landed with extra fees.

I have been told everything with HM is being stepped up and more checks made due to our current situation with the credit crunch etc. Any which way to make up monies for revenue are seemingly being used.

Paypal are now charging even for receiving CASH payments! Looks like we are being skinned in every direction! Not in a good mood today ph34r.gif

Hi Jacky. The same goes for the states. Every time I get a package, I am waiting for the customs bill. So far, it's been OK but I agree things are changing.

I fell for the duty about five years ago. The postman knocked on the door and asked for about 30..... mad.gif It can be a nightmare. Now I have got wise, I either wait untill someone I know is going ( like Jacky ) or make sure that when I go I get everything I want and hope that I don't get stopped coming through customs.... ohmy.gif

I keep forgetting. Americans are allowed either $400 or $800. I'm sure someone will know better.

So far I've been lucky. I haven't been hit with a customs bill yet. I don't know how the US government will go about billing. Is it a COD situation? Do they send you a bill long after the package arrives?
