Replacing Of Rhinestones
Posted 08 December 2006 - 05:51 PM
I have the Gingerbread House solid and the gingerbread man has lost one of
his rhinestone eyes. Has anyone replaced rhinestones before on their solids?
This one seems so tiny --would I check ebay for rhinestones?

I went thru all my Crystals( rhinestones) and I don't have one that small or I would send it to you.
I get my crystals from different places and have bought some on ebay. It is hard to match some of crystals on the EL solids. The best I have done is get them from "friendly" Strongwater retail sellers. Strongwater and EL uses the same Swaroski crystals.
The problem with buying on ebay is they are sometimes not the same quality as the Swaroskis. Check Ebay under Swaroski crystals. Rhinestones are not what you need. They are a whole different fish.
The glue I use is G-S Hypo Cement and it works pretty good.
If you are going to lose a crystal ,lose a clear one. No problem replacing them.
If I find a itty bitty light blue I will let you know.
Took a look at clutterbuggy and that is one of the kits I bought . The glue is good but the crystals were way to big. You can also buy the glue at Hobby Lobby.

Several years ago I needed a lime green stone to match my pear. Lisa was kind enough to send me a stone, but unfortunately it didn't match. I then bought loose rhinestones off ebay, but the quality wasn't nearly the same. Even so, nothing matched either.
Another thing to consider is that rhinestones come in different mm sizes. I didn't know how to get a measurement. So, I didn't buy any more stones. I kept the pear with missing stone for a few years. Finally sold as is a few months ago.
Maybe to save money you can visit your nearest craft store and bring the solid with you. It will be easier to compare sizes and color.

Thanks so much Connie, Ann and greyhound for your help.
I appreciate it. I'll probably check out the craft stores first.
