Went to an Estee Lauder warehouse sale on Long Island last Saturday and thought I'd report back to the folks on this board about what it was like.
Truthfully, I was very disappointed
I had heard that the solid perfumes were being sold at warehouse sales in Canada and Singapore so I was hoping that the sale here would have some. No luck.

I got in by buying a ticket from an employee who had offered in an email to sell me one. The sale started at 8am and when I got there (at 8:30) I was surprised to see a very small line. And there was actually just about no line at all once I left about an hour and 1/2 later. Almost every item for sale had been a gift with purchase in a store at one time - and they were only about 35% off the suggested retail prices. Sort of really expensive for items that had basically been free at some point!! There were a few powder compacts there - very old ones for the most part. They were empty, without boxes, and most of them cost $25.

Of course, I don't know if this sale was the norm or not. But this one was definitely not worth going to. My guess is that the solids without boxes showing up on ebay are being sold by EL employees, but I don't think that they are getting them from the warehouse sales.

Just finished reading your post. Thank you so much for the information. I'm kinda relieved there were no solids. Interesting point about how they're being acquired. I'm sure that some solids are sold at Warehouse sales - I wonder if it has something to do with what part of the year sale you attend? Probably more solids at the beginning of the year then at the end. I honestly don't know, just theorizing.... blink.gif

Thanks again and sorry it was such a disappointment but kinda relieved it was such a disappointment...I hope you understand.

Better luck lives down another lane...keep walking..... laugh.gif

Love the quote Katita! How true!

Meanwhile, thank you Percigirl for your account of the Long Island sale!

I do know someone here in the U.K. who worked for E.L. We were
chatting the other day and she told me that staff do have the opportunity
to buy up here at very, very reduced prices! She cannot believe what
we (the customers) pay for our solids and products..... unsure.gif

So YES it is better for us to shop across the water and
why should we have to pay more than double for items. What E.L.
should realise is that the world is a much smaller place, especially with
the internet. Also, there is such a word as MARKETING and SALES
which appears to be non=existent as far as the U.K. buyers are concerned!
What do we receive in promotional items when we purchase? laugh.gif
In the States you pay half or even less and are encouraged to buy with
special vouchers.... Here we are lucky if we received a brochure this
year.

Yeah - thanks for your post, percigirl. I think Katita is right - a lot depends on the timing of the sale. I reckon that about 6 - 9 months after there release they find their way there en masse !!

I have purchased quite a few on ebay (sorry). I asked one of the ladies where she was getting all of her items. She said she had a relative that worked for the Rhode Island plant. She also told me they had to be one year or older before they sold them.

Hello all! I have posted in a previous section on where the empty compacts come from on ebay. I am selling some of them. I would like to clear up one thing. I did not say they have to be a year or more older before sale. As far as I know they do not sell them to employees. I do have a relative that used to work there at the factory. I do not know how he came to have the compacts but I do they do not sell to employees. These came from the factory that makes them, the same factory makes other products similar to these. As matter of fact I think they speak about the same wharehouse on this site in the area of history. I did read it somewhere once. The factory has since moved from Warren RI to Providence I believe. I also spoke to somone else who has a connection and he also sells on ebay. He used to work for Avon when it was in NY before it closed here. He has a contact and also sells empty compacts. I know that many of you do not like the idea of empty compacts, but remember the value is actually in the piece not the perfume since they only produce the piece for 1 year. No matter what the price you pay for the item it will go up in value at some time since there are only so many out there circulating. I do understand that the value is more with the complete package but it is still valuable empty nonetheless. I also have been to wharehouse sales and they have never sold solids. The do have MINT ones at the store connected to the warehouse for full price. One more note. Don't knock the empty ones. I have come across some that were never even put into circulation which makes them extremely valuable. You can ask some of the members here. Hopefully I will come across some others. By the way if anyone is interested in either of the dragons.... I have them.
