The U S Open

The way the American men have played makes us proud.
The Robbie Genefrie and Coria match this afternoon was really something. Both of those guys qualify for Super Hero speed. Congrats to Robbie for hanging in there for the win.
Mary Pierce has been fantastic also. She may win it all this year. Her attitude is brand new. No negativity at all. She really looks like she is having fun which is not like she has been in the past.
Totally enjoying this one.

However, we know our boy Lleyton is still in it !
Glad you are enjoying it over there, Don!

8 to 6 in a fifth set tiebreaker between Agassi and James Blake. (Agassi won)
What a match! Whew.
20,000 people stayed til 1am in New York (on a work night) to watch this match till the end.
What's the matter with Aussie TV, Sandra? Do they just show the Australian Open?

No we see Wimbledon and bits of the French Open, but yep - unfortunately I think the time difference is too great on this one, so the ratings would be down except for the late night howlers!
We don't get much news about it until about the quarter finals, so Agassi's epic win did make the news. Along with some visuals ofthe winning shot and the handshake.
I think we will just hear about the winners now - their scores get flashed up on the screen, but few visuals. If Hewitt makes the final they might televise it . . . . who knows?

However, we have had a great weekend in Sport over here, so there's been much to talk about other than the tennis anyway. It would have been nice to watch the Federer - Agassi game though. Hasn't Agassi played like the champ he is?

Federer is truly one of the best of all times and nowhere near his peak yet. The Swiss should be proud that he is such a gracious and good guy. His demeanor speaks well of all the Swiss people.
Congrats also to Kim Clister. She has deserved this win for a long time and we were thrilled to see such a nice person finally win.
Our young American men gave us reason to hope for the future in this tournament. Robbie Ginepri and James Blake both played a lot of great matches and we are looking forward to seeing them again.
All in all, a terrific US open this year. Too bad it's over till next year. We can't wait.
