Hi all, I have a job interview next week in Florida - just north of Tampa. I also may have one in Palm Beach. I would appreciate the wisdom of those of you who live in Florida... How do you keep your collections from going bad in the heat and humidity (eg. if the power goes out during hurricanes sad.gif )? I also collect ornithology prints from the 1800s - will the climate damage them? Should I sell them if I move down? What should I look for in a house that will survive a major hurricane? Any advice in living in Florida will be appreciated! smile.gif

Ar,

That's great! If you get the PB location you will be right by me. wink.gif

As far as hurricanes go... just be prepared way ahead of time because the week before the storm hits supplies are scarce to say the least. Look for a home, buying or building with CBS construction (concrete block structure) they are stonger and stand up better to storms.

For the heat and humidity is not bad at all, if power goes out get a good generator and a small AC for cooling one small room where you, your solids and prints can stay! So far nothing has effected my solids and we lost power for four days before & they were fine all on their own.

No need to sell anything, most people just need to adjust to the heat- Jack and I are both originally from CT and we settled in fine. I love the heat! The fall/winters are just beautiful, I think everyday we are in paradise. biggrin.gif

Hello Ar,
I live in Tampa, and love it! We moved from Tucson 3 years ago. (Husband's job)
We are doing the "highrise condo on the water" thing. New lifestyle for us.
All of Lisa's advice is perfect for Tampa also.

Of course, both Saks and Neimans sell solids. Dillards also receives the general solids before Christmas. We also have an outlet mall in Ellenton which sells solids in the Lauder Cosmetic Store.

Good Luck on your upcoming interviews. If I may be of any help, just let me know.
Jory

Lisa and Jory,
It looks like you will have a new EL collector in Florida. smile.gif I accepted a job in Pasco County, north of Tampa. I'm supposed to start on Oct. 17. Now I've got to get my house ready to sell, and start packing (yuck!).

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

That is just north of us!! (We are on Bayshore, close to downtown.) Most growth is in your new area. I think you will really enjoy it.
When you get all settled and have a moment, "I'll buy lunch." Jory

Congratulations, Ar! I understand Tampa is a nice area. I have family that live in Jupiter, on the east side of Florida, and they love it. I visited last month, and boy, it was hot, but I understand you get used to it real quick.

Again, best of luck to you!

Hi Floridian's on E.L. Solids,

I would like to ask you all, "Are there any really good

restaurants within a 20/30 mile radius of Orlando"?

We are both in late50/60's and appreciate good food and wine and although there

are many good chain restaurants, we would be interested on feedback from the

people that live there.

We are also going to visit Palm Beach, and Gulf Coast from Clearwater down to

Sarasota, we know most restaurants in St Petes and Redington Shores.

Thank-you all,

Elly. smile.gif
