Las Vegas Convention

The advent of ebay has affected all the shows. My cousin runs shows for train memorabilia and attendance has gone down, because now people can collect from home. Kinda takes the fun out of it...

Our first night was the "meet and greet" where we all gathered for a buffet dinner followed by the compact auction for charity. Some of the solids for auction were the Strongwater snail, statue of liberty and a couple of others that I can't remember.
I would like to thank Woody, Phyllis and Gene for meeting Jack and I for a drink Friday night, we had great discussions on our latest solids, our best finds and lots of other good solid talk.
On Saturday morning we were up early for the sale where Woody and I were stocked full of solids to sell. I didn't purchase anything for myself at the sale, just looked and admired all the beautiful solids and vanity items.
Saturday night was a sit down dinner with a presentation by Estee Lauder where we were shown photos of all the new 2005 solid and powder compacts. We did get a peek at the Harrods bulldog (adorable) and the sentry (also very cute from the photo) we did not get to see the teddy as we were told changes were being made at the last minute. We also learned there was going to be a beautiful blue enameled perfume flacon solid which would be sold at the locations where the EL traveling museum was shown (two locations not yet announced) Estee Lauder reps also did a fantastic raffle of 10 powder and solid compacts- Katita was one of the lucky winners!
Sunday was the Champagne brunch hosted by Estee Lauder at the EL store in Caesars Palace, it was as always a very nice event. We were each given a gold powder compact. We did see all of the new pieces in person. The general distribution solids look great! The snowflake (star!) does not look "cheesy or plastic" looking, the owl and reindeer look very good in person. The cameo also doubles as a pin you can wear. The Strongwater group in person was disappointing, the solids just lack the JS detail. The pampered pup did not look as if "hovering" my favorite in person from this group was the Fragrant Treasures. The JS group as also larger than expected.
The Nieman Marcus group was very nice, great colors, use of crystals and enamel and nice details. I know many of you will love these solids however they are not for me due to the size- they are so very big! The lanterns and dragon are huge. Had they all been smaller I would be in love with all of them and like I said they are not for me, this is only my opinion because I do think this group will do very well.
Thank you to Alvin and Roz and also to the reps from Estee Lauder who were very, very nice and did take the time to speak to the collectors. Thanks!
A special thanks to Nancy (loved the shortbread cookies!) and Galina!

thank you very much for your detailed report and I'm very glad you had a great time in L.V. and a safe journey back home.
Regarding the solids I'm not so sure, I'll wait and see.
Above all the surprise solid "Pink Lady" does not seem to keep what I've hoped for (no bling bling!)

I want to thank EVERYBODY who was at the convention. It was a blast for me as it was my first one and also my first time in Vegas. What Fun! Lisa, remember 4 people won raffle prizes from our table. We were lucky that night - we should've gone gambling.
The brunch at EL store was really nice. I like the solids more now that I've seen them in person. The reindeer is really cute and I like the purple flagon. I like my Pink Lady - she displayed with the other Vegas solids and looks real good there.
Before I forget - KK and Nancy & Hubby - KISSES AND HUGS You guys are wonderful! I hope I get to spend time with you again. There were so many nice people there to meet. Woody is the best! I bought a lot from him. My collection grows! Thanks Lisa, I love my RED apple! Now I have to update all the data on my collection database. Joyous work.
I really hope I get to do this again. I hope Jack is feeling better. It'll take me a week to re-hydrate - wow Vegas is HOT.
I'm so tired now I think it'll be a very early night for me. I hope all who attended had as much fun as I did. I'm going to take a nap until tomorrow now.
Stay well everyone and have fun!

Maybe this year's releases will spark the energy and interest of more people all over the world into the world of solid perfumes again. Fingers crossed!

At the moment, I am still in Las Vegas. We had the Perfume Compact
Convention and I was with my perfume pals.
Gosh, what a wonderful time I am having. Got in Wed. night late, and
met up with Angela... I called to see what
floor she was on, and lo and behold, not only was she on the same floor,
but right across from me. We met up
with Nancy and Lewis from Scotland the next day at breakfast, talked and
talked till almost lunch. Then we got
a cab to the Prime Outlet Mall, to shop and see what the Cosmetics Store
had ...(their prices are 30% less than
in the big Dept. stores, always 1 or 2yrs older (the solid perfume cases)
that is. A good buy for people who
don't buy them all. They are really getting expensive, and I am not
happy with the new ones. More expensive
and really cheap looking.
Fri morning had breakfast with Monique and Suzanne from California (Bill
and I have been to their home twice
in Riverside. They took us to several antique stores in their beaut
van. You should see it...even has a camera
out the back, so you can see if there is anything behind or beside
you. Never seen a vehicle with so many extras.
Of course the States has everything, and all the other countries copy.
Friday night we had the 'buffet', and saw other people from
everywhere. Angela and I ate first because
Bill had purchased us tickets to see the Moody Blues (I saw them in
person in 1967 in Birmingham). So, it
was a thrill to be there at the Aladdin Hotel to see them once
again. The food was so delicious. Roselyn should
be so proud of the job she did. Lisa looked stunning, and Jack so
handsome and sweet, what a dynamo duo.
We got in about 3am (thats 6am Toronto time haha).
Saturday morning was the "SHOW". I didn't buy anything, since there was
nothing new for my collection.
Monique took Angela and myself to another antique shop, which was full of
goodies but no Estee. The woman
who runs it, is a cute little lady. Then we got take out lunch at a
burger place (best hamburgers I have ever had), and
took one back for Suzanne, who was still doing the show.
Saturday night was THE NIGHT. We all dressed up in our finery. Estee
Reps were there from the designers
to the marketers. They had a raffle this time, and gave away compacts,
some powders. Last year they gave
a quiz, and I knew all the answers and won two compacts....they wouldn't
give me any more. Letting others have
a chance. They showed us all their new Compacts for this year, and I
must say, nobody ooohed and aahed like
previous years. I let them know I wasn't impressed, and will only buy
the Moose and Owl, maybe the Parasol.
We sat with our buddies, Sue, Carol, Woody, Phyllis & Gene, Suzanne,
Monique and a lady from Spain.
Sunday Morning we went to Caesars Forum Shops where the big Estee
Boutique is. They spotted us a brilliant
Buffet, complete with scrambled eggs, fruit, pastries, bagels, coffee and
orange juice and champagne. Also
Gifted all of us with a Powder Compact. In previous years, had always
been a Solid Perfume. I think Estee is very
generous. What other "Perfume Company" does this??? Plus the $$
certificate is good for this year also.
It was a wonderful Convention. Only 1/2 the people turned up, since a
lot of the ladies had had operations.... new
hips/knees and one an elbow. I have never heard of such afflictions
affecting so many women, and since I am
one of these women, it is making me wonder why our bodies are breaking
down at such an alarming rate. Ann and
Ken were in England, and, I missed seeing them.
After the show, Monique & Suzanne left for home. They heard there was a
mini earthquake, nearby of where they
live, and since they have valuable perfume bottles, they
departed. After I finish this letter, I
shall email them to see how things are. Plus they have many animals
that they care for, that nobody else
wants. They are truly the most wonderful people.
Monday. It is noon and I am still in my P'Js. Looking up the Vegas
Strip. As usual, is a beautiful day. I am
looking at the Aladdin, Bellagio and Paris Hotel with the Eiffel Tower
When I got back to my room last Thursday morning, the Management of the
Hotel had a big basket of goodies on
my table... fruit, cheeses wafers and chocolates. What a wonderful
surprise, I was so grateful. It must be
because we come here often. What a shame it has been bought out by MGM
Grande. In that, it is so reasonable,
and comfortable. The beds are great. Not a fancy Hotel, nor modern by
any means, but have a great staff.
Roslyn was her cheerful self, and, Alvin always at her side, caring for
her as usual. What a husband!!! Their
son came this time, and is a very handsome man. He took $145 off me.
hahaha. I couldn't believe it, I didn't
pay for the Convention.... I am sure I must have Alzheimer, or my money
order got lost in the mail. Have to
check that out when I get home.
By the way, I popped into Jay Strongwaters store beside the Estee
boutique. His designs are soooo fabulous,
I would rather buy his than the designs he made for the solid
perfumes. You should see his compacts... mostly
mirror ones, but would be fabulous with powder.
Take care, and big hugs

Thank you to everyone for making their reports on what happened at this years convention. I really do appreciate reading every single one and value your opinions on this years solids and everything that happened. This will help me decide on what solids to get or not to get. Thanks again.

Sounds like a lot of fun was had by all! Maybe one day I will make it! I would love to meet everyone and see all the solids, not to mention the whole Vegas experience!

Do you have pictures from Las Vegas to post of the Estee Lauder solids and powder compacts that Neiman Marcus and Saks will be selling?
Posted 14 June 2005 - 09:43 AM
Thanks to all the convention attendees that shared the goings on with all
of us who didn't go. I've really enjoyed reading everyone's posts!!! Wish
I'd been there.
Does anyone know if the Pink Lady is an exclusive solid to the Las Vegas &
New York EL stores?
