Karin, as Jacky said, I too was at my first 'gathering' in 2002. It was the IPBA in Florida and I was on my own as my husband didn't want to tag along to any of the meets. He just lazed by the pool! I was scared but when I saw all the wonderful goodies for sale I was stunned. I thought all my dreams had come true. I was shy but everyone made me feel welcome and introduced me to others. Jacky will tell you how quiet I was!
I was taught how to room hop...I don't remember Lisas shoes but I do remember her very 'noisy' jeans
The next year in Reston a lot of really nice people from this site came up to me and said hello. It was really strange because they knew me due to my photo but I didn't know them. It was like being part of a secret society in a way. It was great as I met so many more people just by having my photo here. That's what you would find too.
I haven't been to the Compact Convention before but I hear it is smaller than the IPBA and therefore friendlier.
You could think of going to Reston next year. I wish they were a week apart then us Europeans could do both in one trip and it would be more cost effective.
Problem is, after the first, would we still have spending money left????
