Karin, as Jacky said, I too was at my first 'gathering' in 2002. It was the IPBA in Florida and I was on my own as my husband didn't want to tag along to any of the meets. He just lazed by the pool! wink.gif I was scared but when I saw all the wonderful goodies for sale I was stunned. I thought all my dreams had come true. I was shy but everyone made me feel welcome and introduced me to others. Jacky will tell you how quiet I was!
I was taught how to room hop...I don't remember Lisas shoes but I do remember her very 'noisy' jeans cool.gif
The next year in Reston a lot of really nice people from this site came up to me and said hello. It was really strange because they knew me due to my photo but I didn't know them. It was like being part of a secret society in a way. It was great as I met so many more people just by having my photo here. That's what you would find too.
I haven't been to the Compact Convention before but I hear it is smaller than the IPBA and therefore friendlier.
You could think of going to Reston next year. I wish they were a week apart then us Europeans could do both in one trip and it would be more cost effective. laugh.gif
Problem is, after the first, would we still have spending money left???? ohmy.gif

For anyone interested in meeting for a drink we will be at the Aladdin hotel, it's just a few blocks from the Boardwalk and across the street. (walking distance from the Boardwalk)

We will be there Friday night at Sinbad's lounge (upstairs, it overlooks the casino floor) around 9 pm for anyone who would like to join us.

Wishing everyone going to VEGAS a wonderful time.
It's always much better fun when you can enjoy the experience with friends.
Vegas is on my list of places to visit someday in the future (hopefully not a long way into the future though).
All those sparkly lights and signs seem to call me, like a moth to a flame!!!

Hello everyone.....this is Brenda in Canada. I am so disappointed that I won't be able to attend this year's convention. It will only be the 2nd out of 14 that I have missed.

I know you will all have a great time. It always is a lot fun, and Roselyn and Al put so much effort into it.

I would like to remind everyone that Friday night is the registration and start of the convention. The dinner is a great time to mingle and meet everyone. After dinner there is viewing of the donated items that are for the annual auction.

There are usually some wonderful items donated and the Estee Company has always donated some real beauties! It has always been a standing joke when I'm at the auction because I yell out "it's for charity, bid high"!. I sure hope one of you will take my place and keep the momentum going. It's always very entertaining.

If you want a drink through dinner or through the auction, just go down the escalator to the bar and you can take it back up to the banquet room.

I have always stayed at the "fancy" hotels on the strip.....but the Boardwalk is a very nice comfortable little hotel. The thing I like is it doesn't take long to get to your room, the casino is not massive like the other hotels. The rooms with a view of the strip are nice, so I know you'll enjoy it.

The auction starts around 8 p.m. and goes until after 9 p.m. It would be nice for as many as possible to stick around and support the auction which is very dear to Roselyn and Al's heart.

Again, have a wonderful time, I'll miss seeing all of the regulars and would have loved to have met some new people.....I'll look forward to hearing about this year's convention. I'll be at next year's for sure!

Have fun......Cheers, Brenda

For those of you that cannot attend the convention this year you will be missed. We will do our best to keep everyone informed of what is going on, there will be lots of photos.

If there is anything anyone is looking for please email me and let me know I have a list for some of you already, I am happy to look.

Also for any International members if anyone would like me to pass on your contact information (name & phone #) to any of the Las Vegas reps please private email me with your info, it is really no problem and may save you $$ so you don't have to make international calls.

Anyone going to see any shows? I can recommend O, it was great as well as Mystere by Cirque Du Soleil. We are thinking of catching Penn and Teller or La Cage.

I, too, am very sorry I will miss out on the convention in LV. I would love to meet up with members from this site and see all of the beautiful perfume solids AND I would love to check out Jay Strongwater's store at Caesar's Palace. But most importantly, I would have loved to talk "shoes" with Lisa and Karin.

Hope all of you have a wonderful time. Can't wait to hear all of the details!!

Enjoy!
Jeanette

[COLOR=blue]Would love to be with you all in Vegas and enjoy the compant of all my new friends, but having this money pit here means just about everything gets spent on building supplies! mad.gif

Lisa, we caught Penn and Teller a couple of years ago and they were great - such a WICKED sense of humour. tongue.gif

We have also loved the old-time production shows like the Follies and Jubilee - but for the Vegas Virgins you just have to catch the Freemont Street Experience and the fountains at the Bellagio - and they are free too biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hope you all have a ball and keep away from the Forum Shops, tooooo many solids, shoes and CHEESECAKES tongue.gif

I wish everyone going to this year's convention a wonderful time. I am sorry I won't be able to attend, but, hopefully next year I would like to go. It makes me sad I won't be there as I would love to meet all of you in person at the Aladdin. But I'll be there in spirit laughing and talking with you.

I haven't been to Vegas for about a year, yet, friends (who have attended just about every Cirque show in the US) were in Vegas earlier this year really liked the new Cirque du Soleil show called, "KA" at the MGM Grand. Also for the shoe lovers here, at the new hotel-Wynn Las Vegas-Manolo Blahnik opened up his second US boutique there. I hear its fantastic. Additionally, since you folks will be at the Forum Shops with the Sunday EL brunch, some new shoe stores have opened up as well with their new mall expansion completed. And the Jay Strongwater store is always a delight.

I went to the Compact Collectors Convention in 2000 and it was such a great experience. My opinion is that if at all possible collectors should attend one if at all possible. Looking back at it, everything was good, but highlights for me was: 1) Meeting Roz and Al who are so nice and talk to everyone. 2) Going to the Saturday morning flea market where collectors and small businesses had their tables set up. Yes, I spent some money on books, compact stands and a very nice-almost in perfect condition antique (I guess its a 1930's) light blue with a pink rose in the center fully enanameled powder compact. I don't really collect powder compacts (I do have a "few") but this one really caught my eye and 3) Meeting and talking with other collectors. This was before this site was on the web. But back then attending this convention told me I wasn't alone in collecting solids. It was great to exchange information and everyone was so friendly and nice.

I very much look forward to your posts. Have a good week everyone.
Gigi

Hi Lisa,
we are looking forward to see everyone in Las Vegas and it would be a pleasure for us to have a drink on Friday night (this way my husband would not gamble on Friday night)!
