The people on e-bay that sell solids without perfume.....is it because it has been used or are there compacts just sold without perfume....seems like alot of the new ones without perfume...

Again thanks Patricia....a new collector with lots of questions.

Patricia,

Just touched on this subject in another post.
The empty solids you are seeing on ebay are "samples"
That is they are lauder solids that never made it to Canada to be filled with perfume or boxed. These solids are being sold at a warehouse sale that Estee Lauder (in NY) has a couple of times a year, you must obtain a pass to go. There is no limit on what they will sell to you and from what people have told me they get them dirt cheap. The sellers with them on ebay have been selling them in the past and have just started selling them again.
They are making a small fortune on us collectors

Hi
Does this make the solids less valuable to a collector without a pouch or box? I'm just starting to collect. How much less should one be able to pay for a solid without perfume?
thanks,
Shelley

Shelley,

Yes, I say they aren't as valuable without the box or perfume. A solid in mint condition will always bring in more money than one without the box or perfume.

Right now if I don't have the solid and I see it without the box I will purchase it just to have it in my collection. I will then always be on the lookout for that particular solid with the box and then sell off the other one.

I guess that I am pretty much a "purist" when it comes to these pieces. I want the MINT...but I have several that are empty and don't have boxes. These I will replace as I can find them. In the meantime, I will enjoy the ones that I have!!

Cheers to all!!

I SO MUCH AGREE WITH YOU LISA AND MIMI!!!!

MINT IN THE BOX IS THE IDEAL WAY TO GET INTO YOUR COLLECTION!!!

I ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OLD SOLIDS THAT ARE EMPTY...
FOR THE MOST OF MY COLLECTION ARE MINT IN BOXES, NEVER USED, ETC...

I have just received a message from ebay about the Pink Grapefruit that was for sale. They have taken it off as the seller has been suspended. This is the first time I have come across this. Can anyone tell me what it means?

Whatever it means it cannot be good.
Ebay only removes sellers if they break their policies.

I don't care much for the samples, but I will occasionally buy a sample if I really wanted it badly!
